Mini-Series
We named the gap. We identified what closes it.
Today is the simplest and hardest session: being the team we’ve been talking about becoming. Not someday. Today. In this practice, this week, this game.
Read this passage slowly.
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.
Colossians 3:14–15 — NIVLet that sit for a second before you move.
Put on love, which binds everything together in perfect unity. The image is deliberate and active. You put it on. You choose it. The unity that the team could become doesn’t happen automatically — it’s the result of people choosing, every day, to be for each other in the specific ways that build it.
Being the team you could become starts with a decision. Not a feeling — a decision. The decision that today, in this practice, you are going to be the version of yourself that closes the gap rather than maintains it. That you are going to hold the accountability conversation rather than avoid it. That you are going to give full investment even when you don’t feel like it. That you are going to be for the person next to you at the level that builds the trust that makes the team possible.
You don’t have to wait to become the team you could be. You can be it today. The becoming is the being. Every day you choose the behaviors that close the gap, you are the team you’re trying to become.
Be it today. That’s the whole instruction.
The becoming is the being. Every day you choose the behaviors that close the gap, you are already the team you’re trying to become.
One commitment. What is one specific thing you are going to do today — in practice, in the room, with a teammate — that is the team we’ve been talking about becoming?
One specific commitment, made publicly. The accountability of the named commitment in front of the room is significant.
Be it today. The team you could become is available right now.
This session should land with the full weight of all three sessions behind it. Consider returning to what was named in session one and walking through how the series has addressed it.
