What This Stretch Meant

The regular season is done.

Before the postseason takes all the oxygen, I want to take a few minutes to reflect on what just happened. Not the record. Not the stats. What this stretch of games actually meant to this team.

You spent months together. You went through things together that nobody on the outside fully understands. There’s a story here that’s worth naming before you move to the next chapter.

Read this passage slowly.

Let that sit for a second before you move.

The psalmist is in a hard moment when he writes this. Things aren’t going well. And his move is to remember. To deliberately recall what God has done — not to escape the present difficulty, but to find his footing in it.

Remembering is a spiritual discipline. It’s how you make meaning out of experience rather than just accumulating it.

What happened in this regular season? Not on the scoreboard. What happened in this room, on this bus, in this locker room between these people?

There were moments nobody planned. A game that went differently than expected. A teammate who showed up in a way you didn’t see coming. A hard conversation that made the team stronger. A loss that hurt and then taught. A win that meant more than the score suggested.

Those moments don’t go away if you don’t name them. But they don’t fully land either. The psalmist’s instinct was right: you have to stop and remember deliberately. Otherwise the next chapter starts before you’ve learned what this one had to teach.

What did this stretch mean?
