⚽ Youth Sports — Ages 12 & Under

At the beginning of the season, you were excited, right? New uniforms, new games, everything felt fresh.

Mid-season is a little different. You’ve been doing this for a while now. Practice feels like practice. Maybe you’re tired. Maybe you had a rough week at school. Maybe you just don’t feel like running today.

That’s a really normal feeling. Every athlete feels it. What you do with it is the interesting part.

Read this passage slowly.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9 — NIV

Let that sit for a second before you move.

Don’t become weary. Don’t give up. Paul says if you keep going, a harvest is coming — something good is going to come from the effort, even if you can’t see it yet.

Here’s the thing about feelings: they’re real, but they’re not always right. Just because you don’t feel like trying doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. The feeling goes away once you start moving. Almost every time, if you just start — just take the first step, just start running, just begin — the feeling catches up.

And here’s something else. The days when you didn’t feel like it but you tried anyway? Those are the days that make you tougher. Because you proved to yourself that you’re not controlled by how you feel. You can choose to try even when you don’t want to. That’s a superpower most people never develop.

Just start. The feeling almost always catches up once you do.

For the Person Delivering This
Mid-Season Slump
