Trust Is Built in Small Moments, Lost in Big Ones

Trust is the thing every team talks about and most teams don’t fully have.

It’s easy to say “trust your teammates” before the season starts. It’s harder to actually do it in the fourth quarter when the game is close and the play goes to someone else.

So how does trust actually get built? Not the theory. The real mechanics of it.

Every time you give your full effort in a drill nobody’s watching. These small moments accumulate into the foundation that trust is built on.

And trust is lost in big moments because that’s where the inconsistency gets revealed. The teammate who was always solid in practice but made a selfish decision in the crucial game. The one who kept confidences in the off-season but talked about a teammate in the wrong setting. The one who was full effort until full effort was really needed.

You build trust the same way you build anything worth having: consistently, over time, in the moments that feel small.
