Endings Deserve Intention

There’s one regular season game left.

It’s easy to let it blur into everything else — just another game, or the gateway to the postseason, or something to get through before the real stuff starts. But the last regular season game is a real ending, and endings deserve to be marked intentionally.

Before this week is over, this chapter closes. And you’ll never play a regular season game in this configuration again — this group, this year, this version of the team.

Read this passage slowly.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 — NIV

Let that sit for a second before you move.

Ecclesiastes 3 is one of the most honest passages in Scripture. It doesn’t pretend that endings aren’t real. It doesn’t rush past them toward the next thing. It names them: there is a time for everything. A season for every activity.

This season has been a season. It had a beginning — you remember that first practice. It had a middle — the grind, the wins, the losses, the moments that shaped this team. And now it has an ending.

What does it mean to end well?

It doesn’t mean winning necessarily. It means being fully present for this last chapter. It means competing with the same intention you brought to the first week. It means honoring what this season has been and what these teammates have meant to you.

There’s a temptation to go on autopilot for the last regular season game — especially if the outcome doesn’t affect the standings. Resist that. Show up for this one the way you showed up when it felt like everything was on the line. Because for some of the people in this room, it is. For seniors, for players fighting for playing time, for people who don’t know what next year looks like — this game is not routine.

End the regular season the way you started it: with intention.

End the regular season the way you started it. With intention.

One Question

What’s one thing about this regular season — not a result, but a moment or a growth — that you want to carry into the postseason or into next year?

Let this linger. The question is about meaning, not performance. Give the room space to say something real.

Carry This Out

This chapter deserves a good ending. Go write it.

Acknowledge the Seniors

If there are seniors who may be playing their last regular season game regardless of the postseason, name that without making it mournful. The verse gives you the language — there is a time for everything.
