Goals & Process
You’ve been at this for months. The season has asked a lot of you. And there are games left to play.
What you do with these final weeks — how you prepare, how you compete, what you bring to each other in the room — is going to determine what this season becomes. Not just the record. The story you tell about it.
Read this passage slowly.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7 — NIVLet that sit for a second before you move.
Finished the race. Not led for a while and then faded. Not competed well until the final stretch got hard. Finished. The completion is part of the achievement — not just having been in the race, but having run it all the way to the end at the same standard you brought to the start.
Late-season fatigue is real. The body is tired. The emotional reserves are lower than they were in September. The novelty of the season is gone and what’s left is just the work and the games and the people in the room.
That’s actually the most honest version of this team. Not the version with full energy and fresh legs and the optimism of the preseason. The version that has been through the whole thing together and is deciding in the final weeks how to finish what was started.
The athletes who finish seasons the way they started them — or better — are the athletes who have built something that doesn’t depend on feeling fresh. Who have the discipline to bring their best when their best is harder to find. Who understand that the final games often define the whole season more than the early ones do, because what you do when you’re tired and it’s hard is the most honest picture of who you are.
Finish the race. These final weeks deserve everything you have left.
What you do when you’re tired and it’s hard is the most honest picture of who you are. The final stretch reveals the whole season.
What does finishing this season well look like — not in terms of the record, but in terms of how you compete and who you are in these final weeks?
Forward-looking commitment. The answer becomes the standard for the final stretch.
Fight the good fight. Finish the race. Keep the faith. These final weeks deserve it.
This devotional is specifically for the late-season stretch. The language of finishing is most meaningful when the end is actually near.
