You won. That’s worth celebrating.
How you celebrate — and how you treat the team that just lost — is where character shows up in victory. And it’s worth getting right before you leave this room.
Read this passage slowly.
Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice.

Do not gloat. The instruction isn’t don’t celebrate — it’s don’t gloat. There’s a difference. Celebration is internal, team-facing, about what you accomplished. Gloating is other-facing, directed at the opponent’s loss, aimed at magnifying their pain.
Here’s why it matters: the team across the hall just lost. They worked as hard as you did to get to this game. They have people in that locker room who are devastated right now in the same way you would be if the result were reversed.
How you walk past that locker room, how you conduct yourselves on social media in the next few hours, how you talk about this win to people outside the program — all of that is on display. And the reputation for winning with class is one of the most valuable things a program can build.
Celebrate fully in here. Honor the work, the team, the moment. Then walk out of this building the way you’d want an opponent to walk out if they’d beaten you. That’s the standard.
Celebration is internal and team-facing. Gloating is directed at the opponent’s pain. The difference is character.
