When Losses Stack Up

Let’s name what’s happening.

You’ve lost more than you’ve won lately. And losing streaks do something specific to a team — they create doubt. Not just about the next game. About each other. About the coaching. About whether what you’re doing is working. About whether this season is going to be what you hoped.

That doubt is normal. It’s also dangerous if it goes unaddressed.

Read this passage slowly.

Let that sit for a second before you move.

God said these words to Israel during one of the lowest stretches in their national story. They had been defeated. They were in exile. The streak of loss was not a few games — it was a generation.

And the word is: do not fear. Not because things are going well. Not because the streak is over. But because of whose presence you’re in.

That’s a different foundation than the scoreboard. If your confidence is based on the scoreboard, a losing streak destroys it. If your confidence is based on something that doesn’t move — on the strength and presence of the one who made you and called you to this — the streak can’t touch it.

I will strengthen you. That’s an active promise. Present tense. Not when things get better. Now.

What does that look like in a losing streak? It looks like showing up. It looks like competing with your whole effort even when the results aren’t there. It looks like holding together as a team when the pull is to fall apart. It looks like trust — in the coaching, in each other, in the work — when trust is the hardest thing to hold.

The streak ends when you decide it does. Not with a speech. With the next practice. With the choice to show up fully one more time.

This question is solution-oriented. After acknowledging the difficulty honestly, it turns the room toward agency. Let the team own the answer.
