Tone Celebratory but grounded. Doesn’t dampen the win.

You won. And it felt good. It should feel good.

Celebrate. Enjoy this. You earned it and you get to feel it.

And then — in about sixty seconds — I want to say one thing about what comes next.

Read this passage slowly.

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Proverbs 11:2 — NIV

Let that sit for a second before you move.

The verse doesn’t say pride is wrong. It says when pride comes — as if it’s inevitable, as if everyone knows that success has a shadow side — disgrace follows it. And humility is what keeps you from walking into that trap.

Here’s the thing about big wins: they’re harder on character than big losses for a lot of teams. Losses have a built-in humbling. Wins don’t. Wins can make a team start believing things about themselves that aren’t quite true yet, or stop doing the things that made the win possible.

The teams that go on runs — that win consistently over time — are almost always the ones that treat a win like fuel for the next game rather than a trophy for the mantle. They celebrate and then they reset. They enjoy it and then they return to the standard.

So enjoy tonight. All of it. You deserve to. And tomorrow — or the next practice — come back with the same hunger you had before this happened. The win is evidence of what’s possible. It’s not proof that you’re done working.

The win is evidence of what’s possible. It’s not proof that you’re done working.

One Question

What’s the one thing that made tonight’s win possible that we absolutely cannot let slip in the next week?

This question anchors the celebration to something forward-looking. It’s brief — one or two answers is enough. The room should be celebrating, not processing.

Carry This Out

Enjoy it. Then bring it right back.

Keep It Short

Post-win locker rooms have a specific energy. Don’t kill it with a long devotional. This one should run 8–10 minutes maximum.

Celebrate First

Genuinely let them celebrate before you start. Don’t open with the devotional. Let the room breathe, then bring them in.
