The Season Arc
I want to give you permission to not feel it today.
You don’t have to be fired up. You don’t have to love every moment of practice. You don’t have to manufacture enthusiasm you don’t have.
Flat days are real. They happen in every season to every athlete on every team. The question isn’t whether you’ll have them. It’s what you do when you’re in one.
Read this passage slowly.
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22–23 — NIVLet that sit for a second before you move.
Lamentations is an unusual book. It’s a collection of poems written in the aftermath of destruction — Jerusalem had fallen, the temple was gone, the people were in ruins. And in the middle of that devastation, the writer stops and says: the Lord’s mercies are new every morning.
That’s not a statement made from a position of strength. It’s a statement made from the bottom. And that’s what makes it powerful. The faithfulness the writer is describing doesn’t depend on the circumstances being good. It shows up regardless.
New every morning means today is a new supply. Yesterday’s flatness doesn’t carry over and deplete today’s. You don’t start today already behind because yesterday felt empty.
This is the truth about flat days: they don’t define the season. They don’t define you. They’re just days. And each one comes with a new supply of what you need to get through it.
You don’t have to feel inspired to be faithful. You don’t have to feel motivated to be disciplined. Those feelings are good when they show up. But the work doesn’t wait for them. And the good news is: you don’t have to either.
Show up today. That’s enough.

What’s one thing you can do today — just today — that moves the needle, even if you don’t feel it? Make it small enough that it’s undeniable.
The specificity of the question matters. Small and undeniable is the point. Don’t let people answer with vague intentions.
Show up today. New mercy is already here.
